Regional Foodservice Director, Northampton

CSO is looking for a Regional Foodservice Director for our kitchen at Friends of the Homeless (FOH.) The position will be based out of Northampton with regular travel to Greenfield and Springfield. 

This position is responsible for the operation of agency foodservices, including the efficient production and delivery of nutritious, cost-effective meals/snacks within a pleasant dining experience. Directly oversees culinary staff activities within CSO’s Housing & Homelessness Services division and provides collaborative guidance to other meal-providing behavioral health programs throughout the agency. Agency-wide responsibilities include mindful meal and snack planning, food procurement streamlining and cost control, inventory management, food safety and health standards compliance, food storage/disposal best practices, and general menu systems design. 

As a Regional Foodservice Director:

You Will:

  • Collaborate with directors of various CSO programs (All-Stars Afterschool. Clubhouse, Family Resource Centers, ESP/Respite, Medical Respite, and Shelter programs) to create nutritious and cost-effective meal and snack plans
  • Provide agency-wide leadership in establishing recipes and meal prep workflows with culinary and non-culinary program staff alike to ensure timely, quality meal service and adequate portion size, allergen response, and nutritional value
  • Oversee food ordering and food-cost containment across the agency. This includes the creation, monitoring, and communication of food procurement protocols and buying guides that help ensure efficient inventory control and food-ordering efficacy
  • Serve as the agency’s gatekeeper of food-safety compliance and sanitation standards, ensure timely application and renewal of all foodservice licensures, track and monitor necessary ServSafe certifications, maintain up-to-date knowledge of various Board of Health standards, and provide leadership in proper sanitation in food production practices
  • Work within the Marketing & Development department to maximize leverage of volunteer workers and food donation resources
  • Provide training, supervision and direction to assigned staff (including internal and external volunteers); may provide staff with on-going progress reports and evaluation of Shelter guests and tenants working in the kitchen
  • Work in multi-disciplinary team approach with other FOH departments to enhance training for individual participants; maintain working relationships with other departments at CSO, including Facilities and Operations as well as clinical and therapeutic programs that might benefit from work-oriented engagement (such as gardening or culinary arts)
  • Directly oversee day-to-day operations of Friends of the Homeless kitchen locations and meal services, including food preparation, distribution and quality control practices of the department in compliance with health, safety and sanitation requirements and codes
  • Directly manage and mentor the FOH Kitchen Manager in the oversight of Culinary Staff Shift Supervisors, Culinary Staff, and Kitchen Operations Support members
  • Help the Marketing & Development team envision, create, and produce fundraising and awareness-building events

Your Background: 

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts (preferred) 

  • Supervisory experience (5 years preferred)

  • Knowledge of food safety, knife skills, and general kitchen best practices 

  • Computer proficiency 

  • ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain) 

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
