Culinary Staff Shift Supervisor, Springfield

CSO is looking for a Culinary Staff Shift Supervisor for our kitchen at Friends of the Homeless (FOH.)

This position will oversee and lead kitchen activities, including (but not limited to) menu planning, food production, food ordering, shipment receiving, food storage, inventory management, food safety, kitchen and equipment cleanliness and maintenance, opening/closing procedures, and ServSafe compliance. The role is responsible for the daily operation of food services by providing a nutritious and pleasant dining experience for guests and enhancing community partnerships within the Marketing & Development team through appropriate donor and volunteer interaction.? Directly serves food and drink to CSO clients/guests using a trauma-informed customer service approach.

As a Culinary Staff Shift Supervisor:

You Will:

  • In conjunction with the Director of Foodservice and the Kitchen Manager, lead a team of Culinary and Kitchen Operations Support staff and oversee the preparation, cooking and serving of nutritious meals for agency program participants

  • Serve food and drink to clients and shelter guests in adherence to CSO's customer service standards

  • Perform and delegate various culinary food preparation and production tasks in the timely service of healthy, high-quality meals, snacks, and beverages

  • Act as "working manager" in leading culinary and kitchen staff to complete prep list tasks, maintenance/cleaning tasks, and opening/closing procedures, etc.

  • Train culinary and kitchen staff and lead by example in all aspects of food preparation, meal service, food storage, cleaning, dishwashing, and other applicable standards using proper technique

  • Ensure safe use of such equipment as appliances, knives, slicers, ovens, etc. through demonstration, training, supervision, and modeled behavior

  • Maintain up-to-date ServSafe certification and ensure all kitchen practices comply with health, safety, and sanitation best practices and health codes?

  • Assist in the creation of weekly and monthly menus, including documentation of recipes, assurance of nutritional values, proper invoice management, consideration of food costs, etc.

  • Work with Director of Foodservice to maintain inventory of food and supplies.

  • Orient volunteers and volunteer groups in conjunction with the Development & Volunteer Programs Manager and assure their volunteer service is both productive and enjoyable in accordance with agency customer service, safety, and sanitation standards

  • Assist in occasional foodservice management at other CSO location

Your Background:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Supervisory experience (preferred)

  • Knowledge of food safety, knife skills, and general kitchen best practices

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
