The Peer Specialist will provide peer support services to guests of the CSO Living Room Program in Greenfield. Living Room is a peer staffed non-clinical center to help individuals in crisis and those who can benefit from the social support and stabilization of a peer program. The Living Room can be an alternative to going to a hospital emergency room or a respite program. It offers afternoon and evening hours.
Peer Specialists foster a welcoming and trauma informed program that supports LR guests and which minimizes hierarchical or judgmental relationships. Peer Specialists follow ethics and principles of Certified Peer Specialist training sponsored by Massachusetts. Peer Specialists offer a personal connection, believe in multiple paths to recovery, view relationships as mutual, and offer optimism, inspiration and hope. Peer duties include greeting and orienting guests, phone support, individual support, and occasional group activities, occasional transporting of guests or shopping for supplies, assisting with accessing resources and some basic documentation.
Lived experience as someone served by the mental health/behavioral health service system and a willingness to share knowledge and experience of recovery. High school diploma and minimum of one year of sustained recovery required. Must have or be willing to complete the Massachusetts Certified Peer Specialist. Must relate well to a range of individuals, and promote a philosophy of recovery. Will possess strong interpersonal skills, including patience and a nonjudgmental approach. Will be able to document activities in a manner that meets agency requirements. Computer proficiency required including ability to work with email, electronic health record and word processing software. MA driver's license and reliable transportation required.
